Position Overview:

As an Estimator at Francis Brown, you will play a pivotal role in our commitment to delivering precision-crafted fabrications and driving progress in our ever-changing world. You will be responsible for providing accurate and timely cost estimates for our bespoke engineering solutions, ensuring that we continue to uphold our legacy of excellence and innovation.

The Role:

  • Estimation Expertise: Utilise your expertise to interpret and read engineering drawings, carry out material take-offs and estimate labour content.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate closely with internal teams to gather necessary information and ensure full project understanding.
  • Cost Analysis: Conduct in-depth cost analysis, research, and benchmarking to accurately provide substantiated and detailed costings.
  • Quotation Preparation: Prepare detailed and comprehensive quotations and proposals that clearly outline cost breakdowns, project timelines, and any potential risks or contingencies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continually seek improvements and advancements to deliver commitments to customers, business partners and colleagues and enhance our estimating processes and accuracy.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Engage both with clients & subcontractors to discuss and clarify project requirements, negotiate pricing, and address any concerns, maintaining our commitment to building long-term partnerships.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all estimating activities, ensuring that data and information is readily accessible and can be used for future reference and analysis.
  • Culture: Represent and maintain our reputation for holding high standards  with regards to health & safety, customer service, performance and quality.

Your Background:

  • Time served Engineering apprenticeship, and/or appropriate qualifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of fabrication estimation within an engineering environment with ideally experience working in Oil & Gas, Subsea, Offshore, Chemical, Energy, Defence or Nuclear.
  • Skilled user of MS Office packages with advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
  • AutoCAD experience – advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated individual, with a friendly approachable manner, possessing the ability to communicate on all levels.
